It is stated by Microsoft that as of 14 October 2024, a two-factor authentication mechanism will be activated via the ‘Microsoft Authenticator’ application during login to e-mail and Microsoft Office (Word, excel, etc.) applications and will be mandatory for all users.
In this context, as of 14 October 2024, by Microsoft during login;
- After entering the user's e-mail password, verification will be requested by sending an SMS to the phone number registered in the e-mail account,
- Afterwards, it is foreseen that the ‘Microsoft Authenticator’ application will be downloaded to mobile devices and users will be asked to authenticate through the application.
For this reason, in order to prevent users from experiencing any problems while logging in to their e-mail accounts and Office applications;
- If there is no phone number registered in the e-mail account, add the current phone number to the e-mail account as in Annex-1 (Phone Number Update),
- If the phone number already added to the e-mail account is not up-to-date, the phone number should be updated as soon as possible as in Annex-1.
In addition, it is beneficial for users to add the Microsoft Authenticator application to their e-mail account as a two-factor authentication method before 14 October 2024. The document prepared for adding this method to the e-mail account is given in Annex-2 (Adding Microsoft Authenticator).
